Accepting patients at the new Reston location beginning October 1st
All children and adolescents can live healthy and fulfilled lives with the right resources and support systems. Going through a transition, experiencing a loss or receiving a medical diagnosis, in addition to the many other challenges life can throw at us can cause feeling and behaviors that are difficult for parents and other caregivers to understand. Each child is also unique and what is helpful for one may not be helpful for another. I specialize in providing a nurturing, therapeutic relationship and customized approach to each individual's needs. In therapy we work together to establish treatment goals and in the process often discover new and helpful insights into behaviors and feelings.
When a family member is struggling to cope the whole family is impacted. I work with families using art, play and sand tray as well as more traditional counseling techniques to give family members the opportunity to connect, play and enjoy the process of exploration, while deepening and strengthening relationships.
Caring for patients in the medical setting is both rewarding and emotionally challenging. Whether you are new to the medical profession or have provided care for many years we are all susceptible to burnout and vicarious trauma. It is hard to take time from serving other to take care of ourselves, but it is essential to being able to continue to provide loving, compassionate care to our patients, and those we love, which are often one in the same.
One of the most difficult aspects of grief is that it feels like it should lessen over time, but instead we carry it with us forever. Learning to live with loss and find meaning in each day is the focus of this work together.
