Sage House Art Therapy was born shortly after I had my own child. I experienced the incredible physical and mental changes that many mothers go through with little understanding of what the months after giving birth might be like. While I had the support of my husband, family and friends, I recognize women often do not have the same level of support. Motherhood is hard and women should never have to experience pregnancy or postpartum alone.
Sadly, women - not just mothers - often experience life alone. We learn to suffer in silence and pretend as if everything is okay.
I created Sage House Art Therapy so women could have a place to heal in community. I wanted to create a place where women (and their partners) could talk about their experiences without judgment or expectation.
At Sage House, we are dedicated to creating space for women because we know what it’s like to live in a world that often speaks louder than our own hearts. We know what it’s like to decide whether or not to have children. We know what it’s like to experience pregnancy, birth, or loss. We know what it’s like to navigate life, work, family, and friendships while being a woman.
And we’re here to help you through it all, because contrary to what we’re told, we don’t have to do it alone.
We care deeply about the needs of women in our community and strive to advocate for those needs through our services, resources, and partnerships.
We’re not perfect. And neither are you. And that’s okay. We celebrate what your version of wellbeing looks like instead of fitting you into a predetermined box.
Therapy doesn’t always have to be heavy and serious. It can be light and playful and funny, and we take pride in cultivating an atmosphere of joy amidst transformative healing.
